Offshore microgrids are an attractive electrification option for offshore assets, as they offer a competitive alternative to typical power-from-shore solutions.  With Crondall Energy studying systems from KW to GW scale.

Hybrid battery, wind, and generator systems are an attractive concept for microgrid options as they are proven to reduce voltage variations, improve system stability, and enhance system efficiency. Using innovative solutions to optimise fuel consumption and analyse emissions reduction, Crondall Energy has developed a reliable and robust microgrid sizing methodology, which can be tailored to the client’s operational needs whilst simulating the performance and production from various renewable & hydrocarbon energy sources.

I Microgrids

This includes utilisation of propriety tools such as ZETA – Zero Emissions Tracking and Assessment, which estimates GHG throughout the project lifecycle; and RenSys – our Renewable System Optimisation Tool, which analyses the performance of microgrid concepts against the assets’ energy consumption; and IMR – Inspection Maintenance and Repair tool, which estimates through life OPEX expenditure.

Grid connection solutions offer efficient and reliable transmission of power to or from shore.  As the hydrocarbon industry pursues emissions reduction targets, a connection to shore can provide a means of reliably electrifying an asset or providing an export route of excess wind generation (in microgrid scenarios).

Our delivery in Connection-to-Shore Studies utilise a multi-stage holistic approach that considers all aspects of electrification, which have been implemented on; greenfield, brownfield, and redeployment facilities.  This includes the replacement of waste heat recovery, installation methodologies, CAPEX optimisation, impact on availability, OPEX implications, substation layout, cable design, cable routing, structural design impact, and expands to defining the required onshore and offshore modifications and infrastructure to a pre-FEED level of maturity.

I Connection to Shore
