I ENERGY STORAGE

Energy storage will play a crucial part in the future of electricity generation, and its need will only increase as the industry strives to meet its Net Zero goals.

Energy storage is the process of capturing energy at one time for use at a later time. In the context of renewable energy sources such as wind or solar power, energy would be stored when renewable generation exceeds demand. Then, when demand exceeds generation, for example during periods of low wind, the stored energy is used to produce electricity.

There are various energy storage technologies, some of which are more established than others.  Prominent storage technologies include pumped hydroelectricity energy storage, Lithium-ion battery storage and compressed air energy storage.

Crondall Energy is a leader in innovation and intend to be at the forefront of the anticipated developments in energy storage in the coming years.

At Crondall Energy, we’ve built our expertise in this field through collaborations with the NSTA, who regulate and influence the oil and gas, offshore hydrogen, and carbon storage industries.  We have also engaged in discussions with the National Grid ESO, DESNZ and an operational windfarm about the future of renewable energy storage, unlocking key insights and future opportunities.

At Crondall Energy we have also developed our RenSys tool (Renewable Systems Optimiser) which enables us to simulate Energy Storage System (ESS), renewable generation, and grid performance over multiples years, utilising historic data. This enables an assessment of curtailed renewable generation, revenue potential from ESS, CAPEX, and OPEX. This tool has been utilised on multiple projects, from kW to GW scale, to provide a better understanding of ESS performance, sizing and opportunities.
